during the height of bree and me running simsurbania, my mother was also dying of cancer. whoever’s inclined to donate will do so - regardless of the hairs being released. how many have “stolen” ea store content in their games right now or currently use down with patreon? how many have converted pay meshes from imvu, second life or wherever in their games? now it’s suddenly wrong? trying to FORCE “donations” is bullshit. people have been pirating pay content since paysites must be destroyed. i’m finding all the pearl clutching at the release of those hairs beyond hypocritical. I’m with the shits so i’m going to say it. the sims community won’t move beyond until we start looking in the mirror and listening to the people affected with humility. So, yeah, racism is alive and well within the simblr community. And, your self-interested/beneficial actions may have now caused in-fighting, division, and disruption within a Black community built for and by many people whom you don’t have to live with.

Good intentions.īut, hey, just “call a thing ‘a thing’”, you still participated in this world’s anti-Blackness manner of using Black people/culture/bodies for profit or personal gain. I totally understand why it was done, practically speaking. It’s the same idea here, a person, intentional or otherwise, take advantage of the simblr/TS3′s desire for Black CC by temporarily commodifying predominantly Black hairs as an attempt to raise public attention and fund-raise for (a non-Black) person in desperate need. Now, imagine if it were a White man stealing from Black homes because they were the most convenient to break into. They were hungry and desperate, so it’s understandable …but, they still stole from someone else. It’s similar to a hungry person who steals food from a neighbour, and gives them food later in return. And even worse, Black simmers are cast as villains for being angry while simultaneously having our creativity, culture, and physical appearance exploited for capital gain, even under “good intentions.”

Uniting under the blanket of The Sims games is a great, but don’t let this fool you into believing the lie that “we’re all simmers so we should get along” isn’t the same as colorblindness and silencing Black/POC face everyday, everywhere. Non-Blacks benefit financially or otherwise from not being Black every single day. You can bristle at this if you want, but it’s sadly true. embedded into your psyche as a result of your cultural upbringing , and how, especially if you’re born the West and White, you have racist and supremacist tendencies. Granted, the sims brings a lot of us together from around the world.īut the unwillingness or inability of folks to fully examine the multi-layer effects of racism as indirect and implicit behaviours/thoughts/patterns/etc. This community is just like every other community, a product of our broken societies and unresolved handling of Anti-Blackness due to no one wanting to be labeled “racist.” I am not sure why people think simblr/the sims is immune to societal issues as if this community isn’t made of everyday people. We have a very trash way of handling racism in this community, then y’all wonder why people of color “keep to themselves” or “clique up”
